Kaiwen You
kaiwen YouArtistic Director, choreographer and instructor

Mr. You was trained from the internationally acclaimed Beijing Dance Academy. He is one of the main founders of the Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance Department of B.D.A. Before he came to the United States, Mr. You had been the Academic Senate, the Vice Chairman of the Ethnic and Folk Dance Department, and the Artistic Director of the Youth Troupe of Beijing Dance Academy.

Mr. You had choreographed over 50 dance productions. Many of his choreographies were performed by the National Dance Company touring all over the world. During China National Dance Competition, he also won numerous awards, including the Best Originality Award in 1991, 1993, 1994, and the Best Dance Faculty Award in 1988, 1991, 1994 and 2000. He was also awarded the Best Choreographer twice by Hong Kong Performing Arts University in 1987 and 1990. In 1996, Mr. You lead the Youth Dance Troupe of Beijing Dance Academy to perform the Silk River in New York Joyes Theater.

Mr. You also published the dance text books and learning material, including Learning dance from the Masters, which had received much academic renown in China and overseas since the 90s. After Mr. You moved to the United State, he had been active in the dance society of the San Francisco Bay Area. Starting 2001, as a founder and an instructor, he has taught multi-level classes to the Chinese Dance Class via the Democratic Education (DE-Cal) program of UC Berkeley, and then the Artistic Director of China Dance Theater of University of California of Berkeley.

Students of Mr. You had won many awards in various nation-wide prestigious competitions and gone on to become professionals in their respective fields of work in China and abroad. Former student include Zhang Ziyi, actress of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Rush Hour and The House of Flying Daggers.  Current student and the principal dancer is Crystal Lee, Miss Chinatown USA 2010, Miss California's Outstanding Teen 2008, and Miss Teen Chinatown 2007.  Since 2002, students of Mr. You participated in the US International Dance Challenge, and Showstopper, and won various awards including the national platinum medals and the highest all-around scores in the region. His student will participate in the 27th San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival.

Aiping Zhou
Aiping ZhouAssistant Artistic Director, choreographer and instructor.

She was from Beijing Dance Academy. She is one of the leaders in the Chinese Ethnic and Folk Dance field in Beijing Dance Academy of China. Moreover, she won multiple awards of the Best Dance Faculty in 1988, 1991 and 1994. She has choreographed over thirty productions and was the Exchange Scholar and Professor for Hong Kong Performing Arts University, in 1989, 1996 and 1997, and she also was invited as a visiting choreographer, coach for China Dance Company of Hong Kong.

During the time in Hong Kong, she is the Artistic Director of the Academy troupe and led the troupe touring the South East Asia. Her publication with Mr. You of Learning Dance from the Masters - the Han Folk Dance, as well as the Minority Dance, has been wildly adopted by the performing arts institutions all around China and overseas. Several editions have been published and were broadcasted by the Educational Channel through out the country. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the People Republic of China, this publication had been chosen by the national publisher as the core and official curriculum for the higher performing arts institutions in China.

Since Ms. Zhou moved to the United States in 1999, she has been devoted to the Chinese Dance education. She is an instructor for China Dance School and China Dance Theater, the instructor and the Artistic Director of Chinese American International School CAIS Chinese Dance Troupe. In the recent years, this troupe attended the International Dance Challenge and won numerous awards including the national gold medal, platinum medal, the best junior group and best senior solo awards.
